Charlene's Story
Access finally!!!!
Sun, Sep 05 2010 by Charlene
Went for my fourth treatment last Wednesday and the third time they were going to attempt to access my MediPort.... seriously if they were unsuccessful I was going to say the hell with this damn thing.... thankfull Patti my regular nurse (and the best in the bunch if you ask me) was able to find it on the first try (the swelling had finally gone down enough). Not sure if I think this is the "godsend" that every other patient who has one has told me it was and maybe now that I am entering the last four treamtents with the new drug Taxol where I will be stuck in the chair for three hours, I will be more of a believer (having my arms free to use my laptop etc...). The side effects from the Taxol are different from the A&C regiment, figures now that I know what to expect and how to manage them they are going to change things up. The bone pain that I experienced when I started taking the neupogen shots, is a potential side effect of the Taxol (oh the joy).
I am also finding a happy medium with my anti-nausea meds taking a little bit more than I did last go around and not experiencing the sour stomach that I did previously - so grateful for that!
We are having overcast and cool weather for this Labor Day weekend but are enjoying spending time on a friends Cabin Cruiser down at Sodus Bay, NY - lot of R&R and good company - just what the doctor ordered.
To be continued....
